PULVERIZED COAL SYSTEMS

Our pulverized coal combustion system is the most efficient solution for burning the cost-effective, low-calorific and highly volatile coals commonly referred to as surface coal.

In pulverized coal combustion systems the coal is ground to below 100 microns – a process known as powdering – before it is burned, which delivers efficiencies of 95-97%.

Compared with other coal combustion systems, it is the most efficient method available and has therefore become an increasingly preferred choice.

In pulverized systems, washed and dried coals are used. The moisture removal system built into our plant frees the coal of any residual moisture, the coal is completely cleared of foreign matter and combustion takes place by injection – all of which bring the system to maximum efficiency.

SYSTEM EQUIPMENT

  •  Coal storage area with a minimum capacity of 20 tonnes
  •  Pit transfer screw conveyor
  •  Rotary kiln
  •  Crusher
  •  Crusher-to-elevator intermediate screw conveyor
  •  Elevator
  •  Pulverized coal bunker
  •  Pulverized coal burner (combustion furnace)
  •  Ignition and pulverized coal injection fans
  •  Pre-furnace
  •  Steam boiler
  •  Economizer
  •  Stack fan
  •  Stack filter
  •  Ash extraction screw conveyors

ROTARY KILN

The coal delivered to the rotary kiln by the pit transfer screw conveyor is brought into contact with hot air heated by the economizer, removing the moisture from the coal. The rotary kiln has speed adjustment and is controlled automatically from the panel.

CRUSHER

The rice-grain sized coal, dried in the rotary kiln, is passed through the crusher and micronised to below 100 microns.
The crusher is manufactured from abrasion-resistant materials.

ELEVATOR

The coal ground in the crusher is transferred by screw conveyor to the elevator inlet. The pulverized coal is then carried by the elevator and stored in the silo. The elevator is manufactured as a bucket type and is run at speeds that provide the required throwing action.

PULVERIZED COAL BUNKER

This is the bunker in which the pulverized coal carried by the elevator is stored. It is manufactured according to the combustion capacity of the system and is controlled automatically by level sensors. The outlet at its base is designed with a gearbox or air locks.

PULVERIZED COAL BURNER (COMBUSTION FURNACE)

This is the section in which combustion takes place. Its interior is insulated with insulation brick and mortar. It incorporates a furnace providing pre-combustion. The initial combustion and heat regulation section is designed entirely for coal firing.
Internal furnace temperatures are regulated by the automation system and set according to the ash melting temperatures of the coal.

PRE-FURNACE

The pre-furnace ensures complete combustion of the CO gases that were not fully burned in the burner section.
Its large surface area contributes to capacity increases in boilers.
It is manufactured with tube construction, which means it can be used comfortably in high-pressure boilers.
Pre-furnaces are manufactured vertically or horizontally according to system requirements. Their lower sections are built to allow ash removal.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Because the coal is pulverized and burned at high efficiency, and a wet filter is used at the stack, the release of CO and dirty residues such as soot that could disturb the surrounding environment is prevented.

STACK FILTERS

Our stack filters are long-lasting because they are manufactured from stainless steel. The double washing system in our filters keeps the sulphur content to a minimum. Raschig rings are used to increase the surface area, ensuring the flue gas is washed to the maximum degree. The fittings and pumps used in the filter system are resistant to abrasion and acid. The settling tank keeps water consumption to a minimum.

STACK FILTERS

Our filters are guaranteed not to exceed the stack emission limits set out in the Turkish Regulation on the Control of Air Pollution Caused by Industrial Plants.

  •  Dust emission, maximum 150 mg/Nm³
  •  Carbon monoxide emission, maximum 200 mg/Nm³
  •  Sulphur dioxide emission, maximum 2000 mg/Nm³

SOOT ARRESTERS AND ECONOMIZERS

These are used to make use of the flue gas temperatures in boilers. Recovering the flue gas heat increases boiler efficiency. The hot air obtained is used to remove moisture from the coal. It can also be used as combustion air wherever this is appropriate within the system. The economizer section is designed with tube construction. The outer surface is painted with epoxy paint resistant to high temperatures.

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY AIR FANS

• Bellows fans
• Stack fans

These are high-pressure fans. The primary air fans also act as the pulverized coal injection fans. The fans used for furnace ignition serve as secondary air fans while the system is running.

ELECTRICAL CONTROL SYSTEM AND AUTOMATION

All equipment in the system is controlled by PLC. The materials used in the panel are CE certified. Inverters are used on motors requiring speed adjustment, providing ease of use and economy. The panel system and automation programs are produced to high standards by our certified and experienced teams.
